Crochet Summer Hat
Skill-Level: Beginner
Materials:
2 skeins of cotton yarn (Sugar & Cream preferred)
size H/9 crochet hook
small scissors
1 tapestry needle
Instructions:
Ch. 4 then sl st close; this counts as rnd 1
Ch. 1, and 2 sc into the next 5 ch sp of ring
2 sc into each ch sp for a total of 20 sts at the end of rnd
*sc 1, 2 sc* across rnd
Repeat (*) across entire rnd
** sc 2, 2 sc ** across the entire rnd
For the next 5 rnds SC strait, then sl st at the end of rnd; w/o chaining, 1 SC into the same ch sp
***SC 3, 2 SC *** for then entire round
SC strait for the next 16 rnds to form the hat
To make the brim: **** 2 SC, SC 3**** into the outer loop of each st; repeat (****) for the next 2 rnds
NOTE: to make sure the brim is stiff, YOH from the back
SC strait for the next 6 rnds to “flatten” and fill out the brim
SL ST at end of last rnd, then cut yarn and, using your tapestry needle, tuck the tail into the stitches of the brim.
