Welcome Friends!
When I started crocheting, I was about 10 years old and looking for something to do on a boring, rainy day. That day my Aunt taught me only three stitches to practice, and we just left it there. But then something happened that I never saw coming:
I was hooked!
I don’t know anymore if it was truly meant to be, or simply my stubbornness getting the better of me, but from that day on I was resolved to be the best crocheter I could be. After I practice and practiced and practiced those three stitches, I ended up teaching myself the rest of the crocheting basics. It was an undertaking that took several years (due to a lack of a teacher - and the fact that I wasn’t allowed private internet access as a child).
But as it was once said, “slow and steady gets the spaghetti,” and it wasn’t just pasta that was waiting for me at the end of this crafting journey - it was a feast greater than anything I was expecting!
You see, after I got the hang of reading crochet patterns, I started to ask myself “why stop there?” I’m a very strange person in the sense that once I get the hang of something I’m passionate about, the power of my ADHD compels me to find a new project… without ever giving up my previous hobbies. (Just ask me how many Yu-Gi-Oh! trading cards I still have in my possession - the answer may shock you)
After crocheting came the sewing (an endeavor I actually tried and then abandoned years earlier when I was 8 years old); and after the sewing came the quilting; and after the quilting came the early stages of refashioning; and after baby’s-first-butchering-of-one’s-favorite-jeans, came the obsessive study of embroidery…
… ADHD doesn’t just run in my family, it practically gallops…
All joking aside, this is pretty much my round-about way of describing just how many notebooks I’ve filled up over the years. Because, for someone like me - who’s always looking for a new challenge, for some reason - simply learning the basics and how to follow a pattern wasn’t ever going to be enough.
Once the artist finds their true medium it’s hard to stop with the tried and true methods. That desire to create inevitably turns into a desire to explore and discover, and to become better and better over time… which, inevitably, leaves you with too many books and not nearly enough space for them!
Even though I’ve dabbled with the idea of becoming a crafting teacher one day, I’m not entirely sure if that’s the right path for me. But for now, I feel the need to share what I’ve learned and pass along my own creations to folks who will truly appreciate them.
This blog is essentially my “Master Pattern Book,” featuring everything I’ve worked to create in the past decade, and everything I want to preserve and share with my fellow creatives. So, all that said, I hope you enjoy working with this patterns as much as I’ve enjoyed making them.
Happy Crafting, friends! Let’s make something special :)
