Refashionings & Up-cycling

I personally like to advocate for up-cycling clothing, because I think it’s a genuinely marvelous idea: you save a little bit of money in your pocket; you can practice and refine your skills; and you help to keep just a little more waste out of the landfill.

The fashion and clothing industry is the most notorious offender when it comes to waste production, something I’ve been fighting against for years.

Unlike crochet and sewing patterns however, there are no set instructions for how to refashion existing clothes. Each design and each cut already comes uniquely made from the store (or dressmaker if you can afford!), so, in my experience, refashioning is a culmination of all your existing skills and knowledge.

As a result, I won’t necessarily be able to document these refashion projects in my traditional “how to” format- buuut, I can still document and discuss them and their processes, and hopefully they will serve as helpful inspirations for my fellow crafters.

Each entry will include:

  1. Before & after pics

  2. What was used, and why

  3. The estimated cost

  4. Suggested improvements

On a side, I have to confess that I do have a small ulterior motive for these entries: they serve as a way for me to document my up-cycle makes for my personal benefit. I mean, this is the “master pattern book” for a reason haha! ;D
