Inspired: Finger-less Gloves
This project was recently inspired by a friend and old co-worker of mine. She came this post on Facebook one day and sent me a link to check it out.
Even though the holidays are nearing the end this year (boo!) I still love the look of the gloves and wanted to try them out myself. Especially since I already have and affinity for making fingerless gloves.
(My baby brother still proudly wears his set!)
The style of gloves I really wanted to try out were the “granny square” look. Since I’m kind of a granny square kick right now (they are great for clearing out remnants from the stash!), I love the idea of using them to make a pair of fingerless gloves.
One tip I have for making a pair of your own: measure the circumference of your palm for a comfortable fit, because the width of your palm is typically the largest measurement to take into account.
To make these kind of gloves you’re going to need to know how to do a few more complex crochet techniques. Notably two:
Posting
Decreasing
Posting is absolutely necessary for fitting the gloves to the wrists, and possibly gathering the gloves at the fingers. In the event you’d prefer not to post around the fingers, this is where decreasing can greatly benefit you.
Decreasing at the fingers will help create a sturdier fit around your fingers to help keep in the warmth on cool days. However, it doesn’t have the same elasticity as posting 5-6 rounds. That’s why if you decide to utilize a decreasing pattern, it should only be designated to the fingers.
In my experience, 6 rounds of posting is the bare minimum for a snug fit, however you can also make the wrists a little bit longer if that’s what you prefer. I prefer somewhere between 9-12 rounds at max, but remember that is all dependent on the length and width of your forearms. Make sure to adjust your pattern based on what is most comfortable for you and your body.
I am. so. proud of how this project turned out! I may have to make a pattern to go along with it because, as of writing this post, I think I’m going to need a few more!
