Circle Center Granny Square
So, fun fact about me: this is granny square I first cut my teeth on when I started crocheting! My Mamaw was the big crocheter in our family, followed closely by my aunts (her daughters), and then with me bringing up the rear.
Unfortunately, she passed away before she could start teaching me the ins-and-outs of the craft.
Fortunately, however, she left behind a mountainous body of work, all perfect to study and learn from for years! Both crochet and quilts (but we’ll get into the quilting later).
I’m not sure where it is today, but I do remember coming across this one afghan she did with this circle-center design.
It was this style of square I started teaching myself, once I started working in rounds and not just rows. Because I was predominantly self-taught, it took a little trial and error before I finally figured out all the invisible nuances of the pattern (you may laugh about it, but it’s perfectly true - if you can’t see those subtle little changes in the yarn, then the crocheter has done their job right!).
Whether you want to change up the center to make it an actual spiral (yes, that pattern exists), or you’re just looking to practice your own rounds, this is the perfect granny-square pattern to refine your skills and explore your own creativity.
