Christmas Wreath #2

Materials:

  • 1 Skein green yarn (Red Heart)

  • Size G/8 crochet hook

  • 1/8 inch red ribbon

  • 1 Tapestry needle

  • Snips

  • Beads (opt.)

  • Green thread (opt.)

Crafter’s Note:

So, this one was especially fun to work out. As of late I’ve been scrolling around online for some new ornament ideas, and kept coming across this one style in particular:

Reference photo of trending wreath pattern. Ultimately I ended up going with a smaller version, just because I was running out of green yarn.

In all honesty, I fell in love with it right away, and knew I had to try my hand at replicating it!

Instructions:

  1. ch 10, then sl st together to create a ring;

  2. ch 1 then insert hook into the center space of the ring, wrap YOH and then sc;
    sc 20 across the rnd, crocheting around the chain rather than into the individual sts;

  3. sl st into the first sc to finish rnd;

  4. ch 3 and then sc into the next st; *ch 1 then skip next st; sc into next st; then ch 1 and sc into following st*
    Repeat (*) across rnd, and sl st into the starting ch sp;

  5. next, without chaining,** 5 dc into the same ch sp; next sl st into the very next ch sp;**
    Repeat ** across the rnd for a total of 7 scallops;

  6. sl st into the last ch sp, before clipping and tucking the yarn;

    NOTE: to make a tree-hanger with your yarn, clip your yarn between 8-10 inches in length; sl st into the same ch sp and lengthen the loop on the hook; tie the ends together and tuck the remaining the excess into the stitches.

  7. (OPT.) using your tapestry needle, weave your ribbon in between the ch sp(s); then tie off and secure with a couple of tack stitches to make sure the bow doesn’t come undone;

  8. (OPT.) sew beads onto the “leaves” of the wreath to give it a little extra pop; white and red are traditional for mistletoe and holly, but multicolored beads are great for imitating glass ornaments;

  9. to create a hanger for the wreath, cut another length of ribbon and loop it through the top of the wreath;

  10. tie the ends together, and tuck/sew them into the crochet stitches.

Hang on your tree, mantle, or that one dark closet that needs a little Christmas cheer, and enjoy!
